Kolkata: A week-long outage of the mobile application at HDFC Bank has drawn sharp customer criticism, including one from Flipkart co-founder Sachin Bansal, with social media posts questioning the downtime duration for the app at India’s biggest lender by market value. “In this day and age, how can the largest private bank of India do this!” Bansal tweeted on Sunday. Several customers have also complained of being unable to use netbanking on the HDFC Bank website. The app that malfunctioned is being pulled down from the App Store and Play Store, HDFC Bank said Monday.

The bank is seeking to restore the old mobile banking app in App Store and Play store. “This is to prevent inconvenience to customers.

It will be available to download and use by 5 pm on December 4,” the bank said in a tweet. “Customers who are already using the old app can continue to do so without having to download it afresh,” the bank said. It did not respond to e-mails until the publication of this report. The bank’s new mobile application malfunctioned the moment it was uploaded seven days ago.

Users faced difficulties while logging into the bank’s new mobile banking app but customers using the old version did not face any trouble. “We deeply regret that we have let you down,” the bank tweeted, adding that the new app is taking longer to fix.
