AHMEDABAD: A heated dispute over stolen underwear in a village in Dhandhuka taluka of Ahmedabad spiralled into rioting between two groups from the same caste.The situation unfolded on June 27 in Pachchham village when a 30-year-old woman accused her 31-year-old neighbour of pilfering her undergarments for a staggering eight months.An officer of the Dhandhuka police said, "The woman was perplexed by the disappearance of her underclothes after they were put on the clothesline to dry.This went on for eight months."Frustrated, she set up a covert cellphone sting to catch the sneaky thief red-handed.

"The following day, she covertly kept a watch over the man and witnessed him snatching her undergarments.

She tailed him only to discover a stash of pilfered intimates," said the police officer.She confronted the man, sparking a skirmish.

The enraged man reportedly molested and assaulted the woman.10 injured in riotingHer cries for help brought her family members armed with sticks to the spot.

"They attacked the man and his relatives.

The man’s kin later launched a counter attack on the woman’s family in retaliation," said the officer.Inspector PN Zinzuwadia of Dhandhuka police said approximately ten people were injured in the fracas.

He said they arrested 20 people from both sides."We filed an FIR against the woman's relatives for rioting and assault, and another against the man and nine of his relatives for molestation, assault, and rioting," said the inspector.
