Reports about likely US air strikes in Syria upped the uncertainty level. The close marked the fifth straight session of gains for stocks.

The Nifty50 settled higher by 0.14 per cent at 10,417 and the Sensex at 33,940, a jump of 60 points. TCS was the big hitter in the Sensex team, up 3 per cent.

As many as 18 stocks went up. Metal scrips such as Vedanta, Nalco and Hindalco had spring in their step after the US imposed sanction on Russian aluminium giant Rusal.
