HYDERABAD: Before he wound up his hectic election campaign in Telangana with a roadshow in Hyderabad on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Muslim minority leaders in Karimnagar where he had addressed a public meeting in support of party candidate, former state unit chief Bandi Sanjay.The focus of Modi’s outreach was mainly to do with Pasmanda Muslims, the most backward and socially oppressed in the community.“He told us that Muslims wer e very talented in every field and that the BJP government would do everythingto uplift us and also help us grow,” Muslim minority morcha leader Asfar Bhasha told TOI.The brief, impromptu meeting was held at the helipad closer to the public meeting venue in Karimnagar town.

The PM told the Muslim leaders that his government would introduce more welfare schemes for Muslims in education and health sectors based on the Sachar Committee recommendations.

“You must tell the community about the scholarships we are providing to the minority students.

Though the outreach programmes with Muslim community have been going on well in Telangana, Pasmanda Muslims must be given top priority,” PM told the minority morcha leaders.

In his renewed bid to reach out to the community, Modi also told the leaders to dispel the notion that his government discriminated against Muslims while extending benefits of welfare schemes.
